things people actually ask.

no questions about "will i enjoy myself." you will. but here's the practical stuff.

peace of mind
safety & emergencies
practicalities
booking & who it's for
do i need to be solo?
+
no. if you want to bring a mate or your partner, that's completely fine. hardly solo isn't a "solo only" rule, it's a promise. the promise is that if you do book alone, you won't be the only one, and you'll land in sri lanka with nineteen new mates already waiting.
can i bring a friend or my partner?
+
yes. hardly solo is built for solo travellers but it's not solo-only. bring a mate, bring a partner. everyone's welcome.
do i need travel experience?
+
no. this trip is built so you don't need to have done this before, each day's plan is handled. we have lots of optional activities so you get to pick how you take in the experience. all you need to do is show up.
this is your first trip. how do i know it'll be good?
+
fair question. there are no reviews yet because this is trip one. what we can tell you: the itinerary has been built with obsessive care, we know sri lanka well, the operators are hand-picked, and the group size is intentionally small enough to guarantee connection. trip one people will be the ones who tell the best stories. that energy is rare and it's real.
cost & what's included
what's included in the price?
+
14 nights' accommodation, all ground transport between locations, 21 included meals, two surf taster sessions, a yala national park safari, the sigiriya rock climb, guided cultural experiences, a welcome drink and goodie bag on arrival, and full founder-led support the whole way through.
are flights included?
+
no, flights to and from sri lanka aren't included. almost everything* from the moment you land is on us.
what does "no single supplement" mean?
+
most trips charge solo travellers extra just for booking alone. we don't. you pay the same price as everyone else in the group, full stop. booking alone shouldn't cost you more, it should be the easiest part.
what's the cancellation policy?
+
full details will be in your booking agreement. broadly: deposits are non-refundable, but the balance is refundable up to 60 days before departure. we strongly recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation. we'll go through all of this before you commit a single dollar.
the group
what's the group size?
+
max 20. small enough that you actually know everyone's name by day two, big enough for a proper night out.
what's the age range?
+
most people on the trip sit between 20 and 35, with the typical age around mid-20s to early-30s. you don't need to match it exactly, you just need to be up for it.
how do i know i'll actually make friends?
+
because the trip is built for it, not left to chance. small group, shared meals, a whatsapp crew from day one, activities that put you shoulder to shoulder with the same people for two weeks straight. you don't need to be the outgoing one. you just need to show up.
will i be sharing a room?
+
yes, multi-share accommodation is part of the trip and part of the experience, it's where half the best conversations happen.
activities & fitness
what fitness level do i need?
+
nothing extreme, but a couple of days are physical: the sigiriya climb and the surf sessions especially. if you can manage a few hundred steps and a paddle out, you're sorted.
do i have to drink or party every night?
+
not at all. the nightlife's there if you want it, but nothing's compulsory. plenty of people sit a night out and just show up the next morning.
safety & emergencies
is this trip safe for solo female travellers?
+
yes. sri lanka is one of the safer destinations in asia for solo travel, and right now around 60% of our bookings are solo women. ash is with the group every single day, not just on call. you'll also get a pre-trip safety briefing and a full guide to what to expect before you land.
what happens in an emergency?
+
ash is with the group every day of the trip, so help is never far away. you'll also get full emergency contact details and a safety briefing before you land.
practicalities
do i need a visa?
+
from 25 may 2026, nationals of the following 40 countries get a free tourist ETA for 30 days:
australiaaustriabahrainbelarus belgiumcanadachinaczech republic denmarkfinlandfrancegermany indiaindonesiairanisrael italyjapankazakhstankuwait malaysianepalnetherlandsnew zealand norwayomanpakistanpoland qatarrussiasaudi arabiasouth korea spainswedenswitzerlandthailand turkeyuaeunited kingdomunited states
if your country isn't listed, you'll need to apply for the 30 day visa here (approx. $20 usd). we'll send full visa guidance in your pre-trip pack.
do i need travel insurance?
+
yes, it's a must. it's not included in the trip price, so sort your own before you fly. just make sure it covers overseas medical and the activities on the itinerary: surf lessons, the yala safari, and the sigiriya climb, since some basic policies don't cover adventure activities by default. it's one of those boring admin things, but it means you can relax and actually enjoy the trip.
